Last week at the TxDLA 2011 Conference in San Antonio, I had the honor of presenting on Tools that Assist Colleges with some Common Challenges in Distance Learning. Ram DeLaRosa from TSTC-Harlingen, a long time client, graciously agreed to co-present. They currently use SmarterMeasure™ and SmarterSurveys™. Ram gave details about how his students benefit from SmarterMeasure and their plans to conduct a research study on student success. Thanks Ram!
Last week we were at TxDLA and it was a great time as always. Good food, great sessions, and nice scenery made for a super event! During my stroll through the exhibit hall (I like to chat with fellow vendors from time to time), I met a very interesting person. Jack Stromberg, freshman at Dakota State University is the President and CEO of Vooba. It is a learning management system that is social. Cynthia Calhoun of Southwest Tennessee Community College won our $50 drawing to charity contest last week at "Designing Early Alert Systems for At-Risk Students" in Atlanta, GA. The event is put together by Academic Impressions and SmarterServices was the corporate sponsor. Cynthia chose for her donation to go to Fisk University. Congrats Cynthia!
Last week, SmarterServices sponsored the "Designing Early Alert Systems for At-Risk Students" seminar put on my Academic Impressions in Atlanta, Georgia. A packed house of 138 participants enjoyed practical sessions from a talented group. We spent time working in groups with targeted brainstorming and action plans. After each session, attendees were given time to actively use the suggestions and recommendations in the workbook with specific objectives. It was time well spent.
Four unique case studies were highlighted from Grays Harbor College, University of Alabama, Elizabethtown College, and Northern Arizona University. Speakers Diane Smith, Dr. Jennifer Jones, Stephanie Rankin and Mikhael Star did an outstanding job presenting their early alert tools and plans.
