SmarterServices™ Footprint Expands to Include Latin America with Adoption of its World-Class Adaptive Assessment Engine

IACC, Chile’s only completely online higher education institution, implements SmarterMeasure™ Learning Readiness Indicator™ to improve student success

Prattville, AL / June 7, 2016 / SmarterServices LLC, provider of eLearning applications, has expanded its footprint in Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, and Colombia with the adoption of its adaptive assessment engine, SmarterMeasure™, now available in Spanish.

Over the last several years, the growing market demand and government emphasis on improving education has led to increased investment in educational technology in Latin America. While the eLearning investment was $1.2B in 2011, it is expected to hit $2.3B this year.

Total tertiary enrollment in Latin American countries exceeds 21.9 million students. Most countries, however, have very high drop-out rates. This widespread retention issue points to the larger question of student readiness to successfully engage in and complete an online education.

IACC, Chile’s only completely online higher education institution with current enrollment of 9,000, implemented the SmarterMeasure™ Learning Readiness Indicator™ as part of its strategy for improving student success in its undergraduate programs.

The Learning Readiness Indicator™ is the only of its kind because it quantifies the degree to which an individual student possesses the attributes, skills, and knowledge that contribute to success including the non-cognitive factors like self-motivation, time management skills, and typing speed and accuracy.

The typical IACC student profile is and individual older than 30 years old, returning to higher education after more than ten years away from classrooms and studies to complete an unfinished degree or to pursue a new career.

As an online alternative to a traditional college or university, IACC provides a flexible way for students to return to education, but this also poses some challenges for some students. Not only is this a new mode of learning, but it requires technological competency and knowledge.

IACC sought a proactive, predictive solution to understand student readiness and non-cognitive skills before classes even began. The insights into potential new students derived from the assessment data enable IACC to remediate possible barriers to student success at the outset.
